In celebration of International Women's Day and recognition of the vital role of women in specialty coffee, Carrboro Coffee Roasters has partnered with internationally recognized designer Jason Burton of the Caffeine Crawl and The Lab to bring you an exciting limited-edition design collaboration!

"The relationship that Carrboro Coffee Roasters has with Nancy Hernandez Contreras is a wonderful example of how coffee farming to roaster should take place," Jason said. "With my background in marketing and branding, this collaboration brought us together to not only highlight the coffee, but visually showcase the beauty of this whole project."

The limited-edition collaboration includes one 8oz bag of a blend of washed Bourbon and washed Cataui varietals from Nancy Hernandez Contreras' farm Finca El Jazmin in the Macala region of Honduras. The coffee, featuring a label designed by Jason, as well as a 11x17 International Women's Day poster based on that design, is available for a limited time.

There's no better time than Women’s History Month, and to celebrate International Women’s Day. The design takes on a classic, strong typographical look in a mostly gray monotone allowing the picture of Nancy to pop. The picture is in a cyan, yellow, and magenta offset printing technique demonstrating the multi-layer achievements with women like Nancy. The play off “her story” versus “history, and it being Women’s History Month was another element we wanted to sandwich her full name designed with a similar technique as the photo. The bottom part of that design section is “her coffee”. We also incorporated a floral pattern as an homage to the coffee blossom (as in opening up and expanding), plus the coffee plant upside down taking your eye back to “Honduras”, the origin of the coffee and family.

Caffeine Crawl is the country’s top traveling event bringing together coffee industry pros and the coffee curious consumer. The Crawl is closing in on event 150 from coast-to-coast - more than any other coffee event in U.S. history. The Lab is an internationally recognized marketing and branding agency that specializes in specialty beverages.

About Carrboro Coffee Roasters' relationship with Nancy

In 2009, we hosted Nancy at our Roastery to train as a barista and roaster so she could open her own shop in Marcala, Honduras. She came back again with her daughter Angelica in 2017. Now Nancy and her family own and operate five cafes in Marcala, as well as her farm Finca El Jazmin, where she carefully cultivates the beautiful coffee she shares with us - and we share with you!
